In summer 2026, Leo Pum joined SOLO Castanedo after being selected through SOLO Contemporary’s international open call for its annual residency programme. During the one-month residency, SOLO Castanedo became a space for research and material experimentation, allowing Pum to further explore the relationships between sound, matter and technological systems.

Working with discarded sound systems, salvaged speakers and reclaimed vehicle parts, the artist developed a sound system from motorcycle components and car-audio equipment, drawing on the improvised technologies historically associated with free-party and rave culture. Through a process of collecting, dismantling, testing and rebuilding, sound became not simply a medium, but a physical and spatial force shaped by vibration, repetition and intensity.

The research initiated in Castanedo later evolved into Desire Dissection, a live performance presented at SOLO CSV in Madrid. Pum dismantled a motorcycle in real time while the sounds of tools, impacts and metal were captured, amplified and distorted through the sound system developed during the residency.

What began as an encounter between body and motorcycle gradually became physical and irreversible. As the object was taken apart, its dismantling generated the performance’s own soundtrack. Desire was no longer something projected onto the motorcycle, but something exercised upon it: in the attempt to fully possess the object, Pum continued until there was ultimately nothing left to possess.
