Isabel Gómez Machado is a visual artist whose work delves into the intimate narratives of everyday life. Drawing from her family archive, she reimagines ordinary scenes with poetic detachment, exploring the legacies of body, emotion, culture, and territory that shape her identity and surroundings. Her oil paintings depict anonymous domestic figures, particularly feminine presences, immersed in spaces of quietude and contemplation. These figures, caught in mundane yet profound moments, embody the anti-heroism of daily existence. With bold colors reminiscent of Gauguin, flat planes, and simple delineated forms, Gómez Machado juxtaposes art-historical references with the intimate objects and relationships of her environment, revealing lives steeped in interiority and reflection.
Her artistic journey has been marked by a foundation in graphic design, illustration, and animation, later transitioning to a focus on oil painting and independent art practice. After studying visual arts at the Accademia D’Arte di Firenze and earning a degree in graphic design from UPB Medellín, she is currently pursuing a master’s in visual arts at the Universidad Autónoma de México. Gómez Machado’s work has been featured in exhibitions such as Ficciones Domésticas at Galería La Cometa and Meras Figuras at Galería Paul Bardwell in Medellín, as well as international showcases like Art Paris Fair. Through her vibrant compositions and reflective themes, she continues to question the inheritances—physical, emotional, and cultural—that define her world.
