SOLO is an international arts project based in Madrid, dedicated to fostering, supporting, and sharing the art of today.

At the heart of SOLO lies an extensive contemporary art collection alongside several art centers, forming the foundation of a project that promotes artistic experimentation, supports contemporary creation, and actively accompanies artists in their creative journey.

Founded in 2015 by Spanish entrepreneurs Ana Gervás and David Cantolla, SOLO is driven by a deep interest in reflecting a hyper-informed and hyperconnected world—one where cultural boundaries dissolve, merging popular and established expressions, classic and contemporary influences, and the intersection of the multicultural and the local, the human and the artificial.

Our mission is to cultivate an ecosystem that fosters artistic dialogue and engages a global, diverse audience across both physical and digital platforms.

The collection

Colección SOLO, with over 1,300 works, spotlights the wealth of connections that exist through time and across geographies between different creative, cultural and aesthetic trends.

With holdings that range from figurative painting to kinetic sculpture, from sound art to new media and AI-art, Colección SOLO brings together over 270 artists from an ever-growing diversity of countries and artistic backgrounds. Established figures are joined by up and coming talents, reflecting the collection’s commitment to emerging artists and innovative approaches and formats, such AI art.

Artistic support

SOLO develops numerous support and mentorship programmes for contemporary artistic creation. It does so through its various initiatives, ranging from tailored guidance and grants to programmes supporting new media experimentation and research, as well as through its gallery. Additionally, within its ecosystem, SOLO fosters a diverse range of creative projects, acting as an incubator where initiatives evolve and grow independently from the project’s core artistic focus. Check out our creative projects here.

Spaces

SOLO operates through an ecosystem of spaces dedicated to exhibiting its collection, developing projects, and supporting artistic creation and experimentation. At the core of this ecosystem are SOLO Independencia and SOLO CSV, two spaces in Madrid that serve as platforms for contemporary artistic dialogue. Additionally, SOLO Castanedo, located in Cantabria, expands the project’s reach into artistic production and research in a rural setting.

Together, these spaces create a dynamic environment where contemporary art is not only exhibited but also actively supported, explored, and developed, fostering connections between artists, audiences, and cultural institutions.

SOLO Independencia, in Puerta de Alcalá, Madrid, is home to the SOLO Collection, hosting temporary exhibitions and curated selections from its permanent holdings. Designed by EstudioHerreros, it offers guided visits by appointment.

Opening in mid-2025, SOLO CSV will be a 4,000 m2 contemporary art center featuring exhibitions, site-specific installations, and projects such as Onkaos and Movimiento 37, fostering artistic collaboration.

SOLO Castanedo, in Castanedo, Cantabria, is a space for artistic production, with an artist residency, an exhibition area, and the LeCluf Music project.
