In July 2025, Spanish artist Ana Barriga joined SOLO Castanedo for a one-month residency conceived as an open and process-driven working period. Rather than focusing on a finished body of work, the residency encouraged Barriga to step outside her usual comfort zone and return to a more immediate, exploratory way of making—centred on intuition, repetition, and experimentation.
With nearly fifteen years of practice primarily rooted in painting, Barriga approached her time in Castanedo as a pause from her habitual studio rhythm: an opportunity to work through drawing, embracing the simplicity of pencil and paper as a way to expand her visual universe.
The residency culminated in an Open Studio, inviting the public into the space to encounter the artist’s working environment up close—sketches, works on paper, and the traces of an evolving process, presented in its raw state as an active studio rather than a conventional exhibition.
