SOLO Castanedo

Castanedo (Cantabria)

Located in Castanedo (Cantabria), a small town in northern Spain, SOLO Castanedo is a former dairy farm transformed into a space dedicated to artistic creation, production, and exhibition. With a strong commitment to fostering contemporary culture, even in rural areas, it serves as an activator of artistic and cultural initiatives.

SOLO Castanedo functions as an artist residency, featuring a studio occupied on a rotating basis by different artists, alongside an exhibition and event space. It also includes a workshop, currently used by Lemon Surfboards, and the working studio of artist Juan Díaz-Faes, who is part of the Artistic Support Programme.

The residency programme has been running for several editions and has hosted artists such as Ana Barriga and Víctor Castillo, among others. Rather than a retreat, the residency proposes a change of context, encouraging artists to reflect on how displacement influences their practice.

Although it is not an exhibition space, the programme includes moments of public sharing and activation, conceived as opportunities for exchange and dialogue with the surrounding environment.
