Born in 1982, Can Pekdemir is an Istanbul-based artist and educator who has served as an instructor in the Visual Communication Design Department at Istanbul Bilgi University from 2006 to 2012, followed by a decade-long tenure as a part-time instructor at Bahçeşehir University until 2023.
With a strong foundation in design and visual communication, Pekdemir transitioned into the art world, where he explores the boundaries between organic form and digital manipulation. His practice is multidisciplinary, spanning both sculpture and digital media, through which he meticulously deconstructs and reconfigures bodily forms. His work delves into the interplay between the body and external forces, examining how factors such as gravity, pressure, and temperature reshape human anatomy. Employing virtual experiments and physical transformations, Pekdemir crafts hauntingly intricate figures that blur the line between the real and the surreal.
Pekdemir’s art has been widely exhibited both in Turkey and internationally. His solo and group exhibitions highlight his evolving exploration of bodily deformation and virtual reconstruction. Notable showcases include “In Flux: Whole Body and Portraits” at the Doğan Taşdelen Contemporary Art Center in 2025 and “Above the Clavicle: Works on Bodily Forms I” at The Empire Project in 2015, which focused on the anatomy of the head and neck. He has also participated in prestigious art fairs such as Contemporary Istanbul, Sydney Contemporary, and Art Stage Singapore. Through his exhibitions, Pekdemir continues to push the boundaries of form, engaging audiences with his thought-provoking interpretations of the human body’s transformation under altered conditions.
